Gutters protect your whole house. Professional installation, repair, and cleaning across the Central Coast.
Gutter Services
Most people think gutters just catch water. They do more than that.
Gutters protect your roof, your siding, your foundation, and your landscaping. When they fail, water goes everywhere it shouldn't.
RoofTop Company installs, repairs, and cleans gutters across the Central Coast. San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, Atascadero, Paso Robles, and all the areas around them.
We handle seamless gutters, downspouts, gutter guards, and everything else related to getting water off your roof and away from your house.
Why Gutters Matter
Water running off your roof has to go somewhere. Without gutters, it pours down right next to your foundation.
That causes foundation problems. Water seeps into basements and crawlspaces. It erodes soil. It splashes back onto your siding and causes rot. It also overflows onto walkways and driveways, creating puddles and ice in winter.
Good gutters catch that water and direct it away from your house. Bad gutters or no gutters mean expensive problems.
I remember a house in San Luis Obispo where the owners removed their gutters because they didn't like the look. Two years later they had foundation cracks and water in their crawlspace. Cost them thousands to fix. New gutters would have been a few hundred dollars.
Gutter Installation
We install seamless aluminum gutters. They're custom-made on site to fit your house exactly.
Seamless means fewer joints. Fewer joints means fewer potential leaks. The only seams are at corners and where downspouts connect.
We measure your roof edge, calculate the right gutter size, and form the gutters right in your driveway using our equipment. Then we hang them with the correct slope so water flows toward downspouts. Too flat and water pools. Too steep and it looks weird and might overflow at corners.
We install the hangers every two feet maximum. That keeps gutters from sagging under the weight of water or debris.
Gutter Sizes and Materials
Most houses use five-inch or six-inch gutters. Five-inch is standard for smaller homes with average rainfall. Six-inch handles more water and works better for larger roofs or areas with heavy rain. We recommend six-inch for most Central Coast homes. Our winter storms dump a lot of water fast. Bigger gutters handle it better.
Aluminum is the most common gutter material. It doesn't rust, it's lightweight, and it lasts 20 years or more. We use .032 gauge aluminum. That's thick enough to be strong but light enough to hang easily. Color options are good. Most people match their trim color or go with white.
Copper gutters are an option for high-end homes. They're beautiful and last forever. They also cost about four times what aluminum costs. Steel gutters are stronger but they rust. We don't recommend them for coastal areas.
Gutter Repairs and Cleaning
Gutters develop problems over time. We fix them. Common issues include leaking seams, sagging sections, loose hangers, damaged sections from ladders or falling branches, and rust-through on older gutters.
For leaking seams, we clean the area and reseal it with professional gutter sealant. For sagging gutters, we add hangers or adjust existing ones to restore proper slope. For damaged sections, we can sometimes patch them. Other times we need to replace that section.
Clogged gutters are worse than no gutters at all. When gutters fill with leaves and debris, water can't flow. It overflows the sides right next to your foundation. We clean gutters by hand, removing all debris and flushing the system to make sure water flows properly. Most Central Coast homes should clean gutters once a year, usually in fall after leaves drop.
Downspouts and Gutter Guards
Downspouts are as important as gutters themselves. They need to be sized right for the gutter system. Too small and they can't handle the water flow. They need to extend far enough from your foundation. We recommend at least four feet. Otherwise water just dumps next to your house. We can add extensions, splash blocks, or underground drain lines to carry water even further away. If your downspouts are damaged or not working properly, our downspout repair services can fix clogs, leaks, and routing issues.
Gutter guards keep leaves and debris out so gutters don't clog. There are a million different types. Some work better than others. Screen guards are cheap but they don't stop small debris. Micro-mesh guards work better. They block everything but still let water through. No gutter guard eliminates maintenance completely. You'll still need occasional cleaning. But they reduce how often.
When to Replace vs Repair
If your gutters are basically sound but have a few problems, repair makes sense.
If they're old, sagging in multiple places, rusting through, or constantly causing problems, gutter replacement is smarter. For homes without gutters or new construction, our gutter installation services provide complete systems designed for your home.
We'll give you an honest assessment. Sometimes repair costs almost as much as replacement. In those cases, new gutters are the better value. Gutters are relatively cheap compared to the damage they prevent. When in doubt, replace them.
